3x3

3x3 basketball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world and has quickly become a popular way for players of all ages to enjoy the game.

Played with two teams of three on a half-court, 3x3 is fast-paced, exciting, and places an emphasis on decision-making, creativity, and individual skill development. Games are shorter, players get more touches on the ball, and everyone is involved in the action.

Originally developed as a street basketball format, 3x3 is now an official Olympic sport and continues to grow internationally, providing new opportunities for players to compete and develop.

At Northland Basketball, we see 3x3 as an exciting way to complement traditional basketball and create more opportunities for people to stay connected to the game.

In 2026, we are trialling Unrivaled Girls 3x3, a new initiative designed to provide more flexible and engaging playing opportunities for girls. The programme aims to support participation, build confidence, and help keep more girls involved in basketball throughout their teenage years.

There are also a range of 3x3 opportunities available across Northland, including:

  • Unrivaled Girls 3x3
  • School 3x3 competitions
  • Community 3x3 events and tournaments
  • The annual Kaipara Summer 3x3 Tournament, featuring divisions from U12 through to adults

Whether you're new to basketball, looking for extra game time, or wanting to try a different style of play, 3x3 offers a fun, social, and competitive way to get involved.

Contact your local association to learn more about 3x3 opportunities in your area.
